

Ochratoxin A

OTA is a mycotoxin, produced by several fungal species belonging to the Penicillium and Aspergillus families. It possesses carcinogenic, nephrotoxic and immunodepressive properties in the cas of ingestion over long periods.
It is naturally present in numerous vegetable based products including grapes.
It was discovered in wine in 1996.
EU regulation has imposed a strict limit of OTA levels at less than 2 µg/l since 2005.
The ICV Group offers two methods of analysis that assess the level of OTA.
